O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endures forever.
Ps. 118:1
Oh God you are so good, so loving, so present to me and so kind. Your touch is so gentle.
I thank you oh my God for what you are and for who you are to me. I praise your generosity. I stand in awe at the gift of my own being recognizing that you are being itself. You are the ground of my own being in the present moment. My life is like a river of peace that flows from your loving will. I will not fight this river in this moment with you my God. You are present to me and I am full of gratitude for I know that I am not the principle of my own life, nor its source.
I cannot see you with my eyes but I see you with my heart and with my heart I receive Your love. You are the source of any true freedom that I desire. In you alone is my salvation and sanctification. I love you oh God and truly your mercy and your grace are enough. The less I want the more I possess you and you possess me enfolding me in an embrace that is at once light and peace. In your embrace is my life and my home – I find myself in you my love, my Lord. I rejoice that you dwell in me as a gift, that I need look no further than within myself for everything I have ever sought.
I call on you in Your holy name and Your name opens up for me into your divine being Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Through Your Name I gaze upon your goodness and I am touched by your Presence. Your Spirit floods into me as goodness itself. You embrace me and lead me. I trust in You because I am in You and You are in me. How could I not trust such a Giver? I give it all back to you Lord, my life, my death, my hopes, my fears, my dreams, my desires. Take them all my love and give me only Your grace. You are enough for me.
You are astonishingly simple Lord, it is I who am complex. I confound your simple generosity but as I confounded you came still and then it was I who was stilled. I saw within my heart rebellion against your presence and I gave up – and gave in. Your loving presence overwhelmed me and I am ever grateful to such a giver if only to have loved you and experienced your love but for a breath. Let me never forget, may I never forget.
May my life be an awakening to truth. In truth your gift is astonishingly simple. So simple Lord yet in a moment I forget your simplicity and return to my complexity. Come Lord, come Lord, come in your Holy Name and by your Power and Presence. And may my life be only gratitude in your presence and entrustment to your wisdom. I give thanks to you O Lord for you are goodness itself. Your goodness is a spring arising from a deep well within me. To whom else shall I go? You are the Word of eternal life, into Your hands I commend my spirit.
Amen.
